Dahlia ‘American Dawn’

Out of stock

Dahlia ‘American Dawn’

Dahlia ‘American Dawn’ is one of my most favourite Dahlia’s, its ‘technically a decorative dahlia type’ but I think it looks like a chunky ‘Waterlily’  and is the perfect planting partner to Dahlia ‘Daisy Duke’

The flowers are warm coral pink-salmon, with a darker mauve plum centre bringing a richness to arrangements.

Dahlia ‘American Dawn’ has strong stocky growth which needs a lot less staking than other dahlia’s (its almost self supporting). The leaves go all the way to the base making a very neat looking garden plant.

Not the longest stems for cut flowers but plenty long enough for table flowers and longer stems can be achieved by disbudding.

So absolutely stunning that I plant Dahlia ‘American Dawn’ right at the front in my most prominent flower bed so I can admire it the minute I walk out the back door.

Growing up to 90cm tall Dahlia ‘American Dawn’ is an excellent choice for the smaller garden.

Flower type: Decorative (officially) but I think its quite like a chunky Waterlily
Height: 90cm (Tall)
Flower Size: 10cm
Position: Full Sun
Plant spacing: 60cm (min)
Pinch: when plants are 30cm tall (Pinching will be covered in detail on Instagram Stories)

Cutting /Vase Life:
Dahlias do not continue to open once cut so pick when blooms are ¾ of the way open. Check the back of the flower head to check all the petals are perfect. The petals turn papery, drop and lose colour once they start to go over. Deadhead flowers to give plants back the energy to ripen the next flower rather than work on producing seed.

Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water, we rest our blooms for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
