Dahlia ‘Cornel Bronze’
Along with its Jewel coloured sister Dahlia Cornel Bronze’ is one of the best ball Dahlia’s ever!
Stems are so strong and the flowers so perfect they don’t look real!
Dahlia ‘Cornel Brons’ is a really gorgeous shade of coppery, peachy, orange. Its a stand out in my garden and I grow it without fail every year – come October you just cannot beat it for versatility and reliability.
Vigorous extremely healthy growth, even the thrips seem to avoid it!
Ball dahlias last longer in the vase than any other dahlia varieties because the petals are packed tightly around the centre preventing bee’s from pollinating them before the flower has almost fully opened. By this time we have usually whisked them into the house as a ‘cut flower’.
When I was planning my Dahlia sale last summer walking the garden, clipboard in hand, I just knew I had to include it for you to grow in your own gardens.
Flower type: Ball
Height: 90cm (Tall)
Flower Size: 7-10cm
Position: Full Sun
Plant spacing: 60cm (min)
Pinch: when plants are 30cm tall
Cutting /Vase Life:
Dahlias do not continue to open once cut so pick when blooms are ¾ of the way open. Check the back of the flower head to check all the petals are perfect. The petals turn papery, drop and lose colour once they start to go over. Deadhead flowers to give plants back the energy to ripen the next flower rather than work on producing seed.
Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water, we rest our blooms for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
