Hesperis matronalis ‘Purple’

Hesperis matronalis

Commonly known as Sweet Rocket, Hesperis matronalis is a beautifully scented, bouquet filler and for us the first to bloom after Anthriscus sylvestris (Cow Parsely) making it a staple crop here at Swan Cottage.

This Purple version compliments the late Spring garden perfectly and positively glows at dusk.

How to grow
Hesperis matronalis is unfussy growing well in part shade as well as full sun. Sow from late summer onwards either direct or in modules for flowers the following year.

I sow late summer/early autumn in either an unheated greenhouse or cold frame… For more detailed growing instructions join our ‘Grow Along’ on Instagram
