Stock ‘Apricot’

Matthiola incana

Stock ‘Apricot’ has a knock out fragrance with tall, fluffy flowers in peach apricot.

These are adaptable to both growing undercover in the poly tunnel and equally growing outside in the garden. Flowers in June and early July.

Stock ‘Apricot’ is easy to mix with other flowers and the colour adds a ‘touch of class’ to the garden and your arrangements.

How to grow:

Half of the plants will be single flowered (see image gallery), the other half double, so plant twice as many as you need.

Seeds germinate and grow incredibly quickly so we don’t sow our stocks until late winter time, just as the light levels return.

Sow one seed per cell onto the surface of the compost pushing seeds into the compost gently so they make good contact.

Adding a propagator lid will help keep the environment  humid. Seeds also benefit  from a bit of warmth to trigger germination.

Provide support in the garden for nice straight stems and be careful that you DO NOT PINCH Stocks! They send up a single flowering spike so you don’t want to chop that off!

Stocks belong to the cabbage family, so watch out for slugs, flea beetles and aphids.
